Post cards from the United Nations Headquarters, New York

 

These post cards show different parts of the interior of the UN Headquarters in New York. The cards are most certainly printed in 1954 or 1955 by the Department of Official Publications. Card size is 8 x 12 cm. Each card has a catalogue number and a description printed on the back.

A view of the General Assembly Hall in the United Nations Headquarters. There are seats for 626 delegates, 270 observers, 234 members of the press and 800 visitors. The murals in the General Assembly Hall are the work of the French artist Fernand Léger.

The Trusteeship Council is located in the Conference Building at the United Nations Headquarters. Denmark contributed toward the furnishing of the chamber which was designed by Mr. Finn Juhl of Denmark.

The lounge in the Conference Building at United Nations Headquarters provides an informal meeting place for delegates.

A general view of the Security Council Chamber in the United Nations Headquarters, New York. The Chamber was designed by Arnstein Arneberg of Norway and the large mural was painted by the Norwegian artist Per Krohg. The Norwegian Government contributed toward the cost of the decoration of the Chamber.

A plenary meeting of the Eighth Session of the United Nations General Assembly. At the rostrum, the President of the United States of America, Dwight D. Eisenhower, is seen addressing the meeting (December 8, 1953). Presiding is Mme. V. Pandit, President of the General Assembly. The Secretary-General, Mr. Dag Hammarskjold, is seated on her right, and Mr. Andrew Cordier, his Executive Assistant, is on her left.
